11:15 – Yes, it’s worth it! (Not a shampoo reference)
Anna Lisa Varri – Lecturer, University of Edinburgh
Abstract: A career in mathematics, and, more generally, in STEM subjects is, first of all, a wonderful intellectual adventure. As such, excitement and frustration are always present, often in equal measure. After describing the stories behind a few inspiring historical figures – some local to Edinburgh – I will share some experiences of my own. I will then discuss where I think we stand as a community, highlighting challenges and providing evidence of some reassuring progress. Is the frustration worth the excitement? Yes, I think it is.
12:00 – Research Talks
13:15 – Lunch
14:00 – How to Ace your PhD!
Rosie Evans – PhD student, University of Birmingham
14:15 – Social Activity
Many thanks to everyone to attended. Below are some of our fantastic PhD talks.
