Hi, I’m Sofie and I’m a PhD student in the Gravity and Cosmology group. Before I moved to Sheffield I did my Bachelors and Masters in Göttingen, Germany. Apart from research I enjoy playing Magic the Gathering or DnD with my friends, or listening to a podcast, and either doing a puzzle or knitting if I’m alone.

Rita Neves (she/her)

Hi! I’m Rita. I’m from Lisbon, where I did my undergraduate and master’s degrees, before moving to Madrid for my PhD. I’m now a postdoctoral researcher in quantum cosmology at the University of Sheffield. One of my favourite parts of my job is communicating my research to a wide range of audiences, especially those outside of academia, and sharing my passion for the field. I’m really excited to be joining the Piscopia Initiative, where I hope to contribute to its mission of supporting and empowering women and underrepresented genders in maths. In my free time, I enjoy music, particularly playing guitar and singing in a choir.

Lily Bennett (she/her)

Hello, I’m Lily and I’m a PhD student in the Algebraic Topology group interested in Category Theory. I’m originally from Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire but before moving to Sheffield, I completed an MMath at the University of Manchester with a year abroad spent at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Outside of work, I enjoy learning Italian and going for walks 🙂

Jesse Almond (she/her)

Hi, I’m an undergraduate student at the University of Sheffield. I’m working towards completing my integrated masters degree before doing a PhD in applied maths. I am a part of the local SIAM chapter and am passionate about representing minority gender groups in STEM. Outside of maths I enjoy rock climbing and rock music.
