University of Nottingham Committee

Welcome to the University of Nottingham committee page! The committee is made up of Alice and Niamh and joined the Piscopia network in the last academic year (2022-23).

Alice and Niamh have been hard at work before they joined Piscopia. They set up a society called Gender Equality in Mathematics (GEIM) at the University of Nottingham. You can find them on Instagram under @geim_uon!

The monthly meetings that GEIM host are usually for PGRs, Post docs and staff members at the university and can range from craft sessions to discussions about serious topics regarding gender equality in science! They hope to create a relaxed environment where everyone can be open and discuss their experiences being a minority gender in maths (good or bad), with the goal that everyone in the department feels they can join in the discussion. Recently, they held a relaxing origami session and a discussion session on progressing to the next year of your PhD and how this is impacting you. They also hosted a session in July that focused on Pride and members of the LGBTQIA+ community in the department.
