A new local committee founded in 2023, Houda and Beth hope to build a community of STEM undergraduates and postgraduates of marginalised gender at Newcastle! They plan to host regular social events, as well as sessions to build practical skills such as applying for PhDs and public speaking.
With strong connections between maths and astrophysics at Newcastle, they will help mathematicians aim for the stars!

Beth (she/they)
“Hi! I’m a second-year PhD student unravelling the mysteries of the cosmos with theory and statistics of the cosmic large-scale structure. Outside of research I’m a keen advocate for transgender and non-binary inclusion in STEM, and in my spare time I enjoy reading comics where the X-Men punch giant robots.”
