Hi, I’m Kaitlyn and I’m a PhD student joint between The University of Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt University. My research is in Bayesian Modelling and Statistical Machine Learning for Critical Illness Morbidity Prediction. When I’m not PhD-ing, I’ll typically be singing karaoke, dog walking around Holyrood Park, in 37 degree heat at hot yoga, or having a little boogie (ballet & tap)!

Jack (he/him)

Hi! I grew up on Jersey in the Channel Islands. I left to do my Bachelor’s in Mathematics in the Netherlands at the University of Groningen. I then took a break from academia and trained to be a maths teacher. I left teaching two years ago and started a part time Master’s at the University of Glasgow. After finishing my MSc I dived head first into my PhD at the University of Edinburgh as a Martingale Scholar. I’m currently working at the intersection of Category Theory and Machine Learning. Outside of maths I enjoy card games, hill walking and making art.

Sophie (she/her)

I was born and raised in Scotland, and have been at Edinburgh for my entire academic journey! I am a PhD student on the Algebra, Geometry and Quantum CDT, looking at Bridgeland stability conditions on triangulated categories. In my spare time I do all kinds of dancing (tap, ballet, ballroom, ceilidh) and all kinds of singing (choral, shower, et cetera). I also enjoy playing with my cat in the garden- either I am training her or she is training me, and I haven’t figured out which yet.

Alexandra (she/her)

Hi, I am Alexandra and I am a second-year PhD student working in noncommutative algebra. Before starting my PhD, I completed my undergraduate and Master’s degrees at the University of Manchester. Outside mathematics, I enjoy reading, travelling, and doing crafty activities.
